Fowler & Hammer, Inc. Office Complete, pursuing LEED Certification

February 1, 2010

Necessitated by steady company growth, Fowler & Hammer, Inc. chose to construct a new office building located at 313 Monitor Street on La Crosse's North Side. As a company we felt a responsibility to pursue LEED Certification of our new building. A tremendous amount of designing and planning went into all the LEED aspects of this building. The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings.

LEED provides a complete framework for assessing building performance and meeting sustainability goals. HSR Associates, Inc. was selected to design and engineer the new office. HSR Associates, Inc. has two LEED Accredited Professionals on staff; Doug Ramsey, AIA, LEED AP, and Lu Cagin, IIDA, LEED AP.

Construction began last summer and completed in early February. Fowler & Hammer, Inc. has made a conscious decision to become a more earth-friendly company. We have begun replacing a portion of our fleet of large pickup trucks with small Ultra Low Emissions Vehicles. Jim Fowler, PE, the owner and president of Fowler & Hammer, Inc., is a LEED Accredited Professional and drives a gas/electric hybrid vehicle. This is the last piece in year long redevelopment project that included work on seven buildings and over an acre of land.
